Commentary:Fact Findings,Traffic and Control in Finland

Finland is a Nordic-Scandinavian country with a population of about 5.5 million people.

Most of these people live in urban areas, towns and cities while the minority lives in the country side with farming as the most preferred occupation using registered tractors and combine harvesters.

In 2006 there were 2.4 million registered cars in Finland. This is a large number of vehicles compared to the number of inhabitants in this area which raises an environmental concerns questions.

In Åland Islands, as small autonomous province of Finland recorded a maximum number of 3,100 registered vehicles. The population in Åland Island is about 10,000 inhabitants.

The population in Åland Islands is in constant increase due to its relaxed labour laws, it´s tollerance towards immigrants and less discriminatory principles in comparison to the areas in Finland mainland.

Traffic Control

In 2008, five people died in Åland Island because of fatal road accidents.

In 2007, 28,000 traffic users were tested in Finland according to police reports.

In 2006,17,000 traffic users were tested in Finland.

In 2004, 1.8 million traffic users were tested in Finland.

According to traffic rules act. In Finland all traffic offenders related to alcohol or controlled substances, must go through A-Clinic to prove their road worthiness. The process is a three testing time which takes 3 months duration, 6 months duration and 1 year duration for control before the culprit could have the drivers license back.

These controls are offered free of charge by the A-Clinic to the traffic offenders but the bottom line is that tax payers money is instrumentally involved and used.

According to statistics, alcohol related diseases kills 3,000 people in Finland every year and 23,500 persons are registered to be in alcohol and controlled substances related programs yearly.

The statistics also shows that 500million euros from tax payers money are involved to sustain,maintain and innovate these programs.

More Irak Asylum Seekers in Finland

As per the report in SVT text-tv, there are more immigrants seeking asylum from Irak in Finland than any other country. The statistics shows that last year 2008, there were 4000 asylum seekers in Finland, majority of over 1500 persons were from Irak alone.

This trend can be attributed to the delaying in processing asylum seekers papers in Sweden.

It has also been noticed by observers that the majority of the processed asylum seekers papers from Irak are recommended for deportation back to Irak hence the moving towards Finland for protection.

Finnish attitude towards asylum seekers and immigrants in general has been worrying in the past years from authorities relaxed attitudes to immigrants to the harsh response in the streets and less active legislation by the politicians to intervene.

This turn of events could mean an attitude change towards foreigners living in Finland. One awaits to see how the labor market in Finland will respond to this adjustments

Kindergarden:Parents to Choose which Community their Kids Attends

Kindergarten Care Minister in Finland Paula Risikko(saml) has announced that her ministry is considering a legislation on an alternative choice in kindergarten where parents with kids will be allowed to choice which community their kids attend a kindergarten.

This could be a break from the traditional past where most kids attended kindergarten from the community where they are registered.

This could also mean that parents who works or study in a different community can choose the nearest kindergarten to their work place or study location for their kids, reports Helsingin Sanomat Internet news.

Which way is Venezuela´s way?

With the just concluded referendum on the constitutional amendment in favor of Venezuela´s former paratrooper president Hugo Cha´vez to run for office hence extending his rule for another term, one wonders if the Cha´vez leftist revolution which began in 1999 as popular revolution has about-turned into sort of dictatorial rule.

President Cha´vez is still a very popular man in Venezuela as one columnist with the time magazine puts it”despite his (Cha´vez) authoritarian image, Cha´vez is not a dictator nor a 21st century Castro. He´s been democratically elected three times, subjected himself to a 2004 recall vote(which he defeated) and permits a noisy opposition press”

This is not the same with some opposition figures and commentators who thinks Cha´vez has an ego maniacal obsession with being president for life.” This is not a constitutional amendment” says opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez.” its a constitutional violation”.

To many observers, leftist presidents in Latin America like Evo Morales of Bolivia and Rafael Correa of Ecuador had their own term limits relaxed by popular vote, hence wonders if this is the new trend going on in that region with Venezuela following the pursuit.

Venezuela is oil rich country and what keeps on occurring in observers mind is if the oil reserves will keep on pumping oil in this global economic downturn to sustain the policies which Cha´vez enacted when he resumed power or the oil economy will collapse in this global economic downturn, one waits to see.

Marstad Raises Rental Prices

Marstad Raises Rental Prices

Marstad, the housing consultant company in Mariehamn has raised the rent prices higher again with two years duration. This around the prices are raised according to the size the apartments or the square metres tenants rents.

The price increase varies from 0,28 euro per square metres to9,40 euro per square metre others are 0.51 euro per square metres.

Students residents in Bikupan has been the most affected with the highest euro increase per room.

The following Marstad apartments in Örtvägen 30, Lillängs vägen,lotsgatan are not affected. The raised price takes effect from next month, March 2009.

your friend.

original color. The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades. You
only have to shave your face and some cases neck.

one color for all seasons. You can wear shorts no matter how your legs
look. You can “do” your nails with a pocket knife. You have freedom of
choice concerning growing a mustache.

You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in flat 25 minutes.

No wonder men are happier.
